Central Auckland church Kāhui St David's are inviting whānau and friends from across Aotearoa to honour the 28th Māori Battalion for a special event on the eve of Anzac Day.
The event will feature music and moving images to remember the 28th Māori Battalion.
Kāhui St David's director Paul Baragwanath reached out to kaumātua and Māori Battalion representatives to bring the event together.
A bronze plaque will be unveiled in the Great Hall with the blessing of Sir Bom Gillies KNZM, who served with B Company, 28th Battalion in World War II.
"This plaque will inspire new generations who come to Kāhui St David's for music, community and remembrance," Baragwanath said.
Principal and founding partner of Te Mata Law David Stone said this historic event is for everyone, including all whānau of the Māori Battalion.
"St David's was built as a World War I Soldiers' Memorial Church. It is now home to Kāhui St David's centre for music, which will see the building continue as a living memorial for our tamariki in perpetuity. It's a meaningful place to honour the legacy of the 28th Māori battalion."
